Man to face court for destroying sign

A commuter accused of destroying a sign at the Half-Way Tree Transport Centre because he had grown tired of waiting for a bus is to return to court on Friday to answer a charge of malicious destruction of property.

The court was told that the accused man, Roger Robinson, got into a fit of rage after allegedly claiming that he was waiting on a bus for some two hours and hit a sign at the facility, causing it to fall to the ground.

Robinson offered a different story, however, stating the sign had already been made unstable by another angry commuter who had hit it after her had grown sick of waiting as well. Robinson continued that he only hit the sign after a security guard, who had mistaken him for the other commuter who had initially hit the sign, collared him and accused him of the act.

A representative from the Transport Authority told the court that the current value for the sign has not been ascertained as yet, but noted that such a sign once cost close to $20,000.

Robinson returns to court on April 24.
