Bottom of the ladder Liguanea shock Santos

Bottom-of-the-ladder team Liguanea United created a major upset when they clipped Santos 3-2 in the Claro/KSAFA Super League at the Bell/Chung Stadium last Saturday.

Showing signs of a team that is not prepared to be relegated, Liguanea United silenced the home fans in the sixth minute, courtesy of Everton Mattis, who also returned and scored in the 89th minute. Roxroy Davis got the other goal in the 49th minute. Santos' goals came from Fabian Nethersole and Marvin Morgan in the 63rd and 75th minutes, respectively.

With the loss, however, Santos remain in third place on 37 points while Liguanea are in 12th-position, accumulating a total of 10 points.

Maintaining their unbeaten record, front-runners August Town were held to a 0-0 scoreline by the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) at Up Park Camp. August Town, who still have a game in hand, have 40 points while JDF have 34 and, remain in fourth place.

Cavalier had a perfect opportunity to take the lead in the league but squandered it, as they too were held to a 0-0 draw by the boys from the east, Bull Bay. Cavalier sit in second position with 40 points while Bull Bay moved one place up, to regain fifth position with 28 points.

Maverley/Hughenden were brought back to Earth after jumping three places last week in the 12-team table. Real Mona dismissed them 2-0. The winners opened the scoring courtesy of an own goal in the 33rd minute and the other, through a Scott Waddell 59th-minute strike. Real Mona climbed up one place to occupy sixth position with 28 points while Maverley/Hughenden slipped three places to sit in eighth spot on 27 points.

A hat-trick from Patrick Beech in the 30th, 62nd and 78th minutes, respectively, was enough to give Duhaney Park a 3-0 victory over strugglers Mountain View United. Duhaney Park are in ninth place with 21 points while Mountain View could still face elimination as they are in 10th place, two points ahead of the relegation zone.

Constant Spring edged Police Nationals 1-0 at the Bull Pen, thanks to a 60th-minute goal from Robert Taylor. Constant Spring sit in seventh position on 27 points while Police Nationals continue to fight the relegation battle, sitting uneasily in 11th place with 10 points.

The 20th round of the Claro/KSAFA Super League will be played next Saturday with a full slate of matches.

MAJOR LEAGUE

Leaders Central Kingston were beaten 2-0 by Molynes United at Winchester Park with Demar Morrison and Adrian Crooks getting the goals for the winners.

Olympic Gardens came away 3-0 winners over Port Royal thanks to Fabian Francis' brace in the 56th and 74th minutes, and Damion Williams' 68th-minute strike.

The encounters between Seaview Gardens vs Brown's Town and Barbican up against Cooreville Gardens did not produce any goals.

The match between Rockfort and Meadforest was not played as both teams turned up in the same colour jerseys.

In the rescheduled game on Sunday, April 19, between Swallowfield and Rae Town, the latter came away 1-0 winners through a 79th-minute strike from André Williams.

In the lone game on Sunday, New Kingston triumphed 5-0 over UTech. Terrence Allen opened the scoring in the 25th minute while Lancelot Jackson hit a hat-trick in the 37th, 53rd and 76th minute. Dennis Brown scored the other goal in the 50th minute.
