HORSE-OF-THE-YEAR ALSAFRA gets a more ideal distance tomorrow afternoon, 1500 metres, to stalk and beat rivals after being outsped by SUPER DAVE at 1200 metres on April 4. The Superstakes runner-up was dragged in quick splits down the backstretch and came forward best of the rest a half-furlong out to close two lengths on SUPER DAVE before the winning post intervened. With an easier pace expected and Dane Nelson replacing Larris Allen, ALSAFRA should be more relaxed against the likes of pacers LITTLE WASP and AGUILA, who should have no answer when she injects her mid-race pace leaving the three-pole. Tomorrow's a good day to aim at a STAR/Track Price Plus Pick-6 Accumulator, using ALSAFRA along with HONEYOFALADY, JET SKI D'OR, SIMPLY AWESOME, FUGITIVE and PLEASURE FLIGHT. The American-bred filly HONEYOFALADY returns in the opening event at 1200 metres, hunting back-to-back wins after slamming rivals by more than nine lengths at 1200 metres on March 21. She seemed rather comfortable in clocking 1:13.3 and although facing speedier rivals, SIR VALIANT and NO RUMOUR, HONEYOFALADY should be able to stalk before attacking in the stretch run under evergreen Winston Griffiths. favourite rider JET SKI D'OR hasn't raced since December but returns at his pet distance with unfashionable but favourite rider Milton Powell in the irons in the fourth. As customary, JET SKI D'OR will break near the inner rails but that has not deterred him from consistently winning at the distance, beaten only by DOUBLE BOW in his last four races at 1000 metres straight. Take SIMPLY AWESOME from the on-fire barn of Lazel Khwalsingh to make all in the fifth at 1820 metres. Super fit after chasing home DUST ROCK in her last two races following a win at a mile on March 14, SIMPLY AWESOME should now go one better. Philip Feanny's FUGITIVE gets a gift in the sixth at 1700 metres, which he should win easily after going down narrowly to THE RED SKULL when trying to make all at 1820 metres on April 4. renewed rivalry PLEASURE FLIGHT renews rivalry with GABROUSHE after being caught at 1400 metres on March 18, fresh from his big win at 1500 metres last week Monday. GABROUSHE pounced on PLEASURE FLIGHT early in the stretch run when they last met before pulling off for a two and quarter-length win at 1400 metres. The increased distance would seemingly suit GABROUSHE even better but PLEASURE FLIGHT looked too awesome in splits of 1:11.3 last week, posting a fast 1:32.3 for 1500 metres. PLEASURE FLIGHT looked much better last week in what was his second outing under Eraldo Fullerton's care and looks set to settle behind the likes of GOOD SENSE and KIKO before setting sail for home off the final turn. |
