The trial of Superintendent Harry 'Bungles' Daley continued yesterday with head of the Anti-Corruption Branch, Justin Felice, being cross-examined by defence lawyer Valerie Neita Robertson. Daley, who is charged with breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act, has been on trial in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court since Monday. Neita Robertson had asked on Tuesday for the cross-examination of Assistant Commissioner of Police Justin Felice to be put off until other witnesses had testified. Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ruled yesterday that the cross-examination should proceed. RM Pusey said that if Neita Robertson reached a point where she could go no further then she could recall Felice. Felice said under cross-examination that Tafari Clarke, the complainant in the case, was introduced to him by Deputy Commissioner of Police Mark Shields. Daley is charged with six counts of extortion and six counts of breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act. Daley was held in Kingston last month during a sting operation in which he was allegedly seen collecting $15,000 from a businessman. The Crown, represented by prosecutor Dirk Harrison, is alleging that between May 2007 and July 2008, Daley collected a total of $65,000 from a businessman as protection money for a plaza at Ewarton, St Catherine. |
