Star Tell Me Pastor

Sweet talker

Dear Pastor,

I am currently residing in Canada. Recently, I was speaking to this young man I knew back when I was living in Jamaica.

I liked this guy so much but he was a womaniser, so I didn't really pay him any attention at that time. Now that we have been talking, he has been telling me how much he has always loved me and wants to be with me. He said that he had always liked me, but he was just too afraid to approach me due to the fact that he never wanted to disrespect my mother.

He never knew I was only two years younger than he was. I really do like him and I really do enjoy his company over the phone. He claims he wants to start a relationship with me, but he is involved with a young lady and they are expecting a baby together. He says it was a mistake and all he wants to do is be there for his child.

leave it alone

I have asked my mom her opinion on the situation and she has said to leave it alone. But I really do love him; I have liked him since grade school days. Should I leave it alone? Or should I try and make things work between us?

Dear R.B.,

Your mother is 'dead on'. This man is nothing but a 'ginnal'. He is trying to talk his way into your life and you are too naive to understand. He is not talking the truth about the woman who is carrying his child. And what he said about his reluctance in becoming friendly with you when both of you were living in Jamaica is nonsense.

If you ignore the advice of your mother and what I am saying to you now and continue to build a relationship with this man, you will crash! This guy has 'sweet-talked' you and has caused you to love him, but that's all he has, 'sweet-talk'. Turn away from him. If you are not attending school, go to school. Don't allow yourself to have too much time to play. The devil finds work for idle hands.
