Dancehall publicist faces assault charges

Popular publicist Ra-Umi Alkebulan is facing two charges after assaulting his babymother, marketing consultant Tyehimba Kafele, and friend Nicole Willams on Wednesday. Both women also face charges of assault.

When THE WEEKEND STAR contacted the Half-Way Tree Police Station, they confirmed that the incident was reported and that Alkebulan has been charged with assaulting a female and assault occasioning grievous bodily harm. Kafele and Williams were each charged with a case of assault.

Alkebulan declined to comment on the matter when contacted by THE WEEKEND STAR.

Kafele, who is the mother of Alkebulan's seven-year-old child, explained that this is not first incident of verbal and attempted physical abuse against her by Alkebulan.

Kafele and Alkebulan were involved in an eight-year relationship which ended last year. Kafele explained that she was using Alkebulan's car Wednesday evening when the two got into an argument over the telephone about business matters. Upon picking up Alkebulan in Constant Spring, the argument continued in person until Kafele demanded to be let out by Market Place on Constant Spring Road.

According to Kafele, she was removing her belongings from the vehicle when Alkebulan reportedly shoved her, after which she moved her belongings to a nearby tree.

She said: "He started pointing in ma face and I stepped back and asked him to leave me alone which he did and he walked and come back and started doing the same thing. He then held me by my throat and chucked me - him seh, 'You know dat mi mus lick yuh inna yuh face today, mi mus kill yuh'."

According to Kafele, Alkebulan then went in his car in search of something to beat her. "I presumed he was looking for the steering lock, so I went round to the other side of the car and took out the steering lock and he seh 'Give it to me. I will lick yuh in your face'. It was then the security started to intervene and he pushing at the security and start throw punches at me with the security in the middle trying to ease him off. I kick at him and he held on to my foot and I fell. I tried taking the steering lock out of his hand and he proceeded to try and hit me wid it," Kafele said.

It was then that Williams who was passing by intervened. She said, "My friend tried to intervene and he hit her and the security pulled him off and he tried hitting her again." After that, Kafele said he drove away.

Kafele escorted Williams to the Andrews Memorial Hospital where it was discovered that her hand was broken and would require surgery.

Kafele and Williams, as well as Alkebulan, later reported the matter to the Half-Way Tree Police Station and are heading for court on June 12. Kafele also said she would be seeking a restraining order against Alkebulan.
