Man tries to bribe cop arrested

A man was arrested and charged by the Denham Town police yesterday when it was alleged that he violated the traffic law and then attempted to bribe an officer.

Charged with breaches of the Corruption and Prevention Act and Breaches of the Road Prevention Act is Devon James.

Police told THE WEEKEND STAR that James, a taxi operator, was allegedly seen disobeying a traffic signal along the Spanish Town main road. He was pursued and accosted by the police.

It is alleged that when James was confronted, a bribe was reportedly offered to the policeman.

The sum of $1,000 offered to the police was confiscated and James arrested and charged. James is to appear in court on April 30.
