MP calls for investigation into farmer's death |

Central Clarendon Memberof Parliament (MP) Mike Henry has called for the Bureau of Special Investigation (BSI) to thoroughly investigate the shooting death of a youngster in Nickle's Avenue, May Pen, by the police on Wednesday. Dead is Cowan Grant, 24, otherwise called 'Carlton Grant', 'Pops' and 'Shabba', a farmer of Nickle Avenue. an injudicious killing Henry, who had to stave off street protests over the incident in the Clarendon capital after the shooting, said witnesses, reports pointed to an injudicious killing by the police. "The police have their challenges, no doubt, but the citizens, of all walks of life, have human rights, and these must be guarded zealously, especially the right to life," said Henry. fired at the lawmen Police say about 6:45 a.m. a team of police, responding to an assignment, went to Nickle Avenue. On approaching a premises, the police saw three men sitting on the sidewalk, one of whom drew a firearm and fired at the lawmen. aThe fire was returned and the men ran. The area was searched and one of the men was found suffering from gunshot wounds. An Intratec 9mm Luger submachine gun was also found. The injured man was taken to the May Pen Hospital where he died.
Residents staged a mini demonstration as a result of the killing. The Bureau of Special Investigations has commenced an inquiry. |
