Trial for cop on murder charge set for May 18

Police Constable Lascene Edwards, who is charged with the murder of the mother of his child, Aldonna Harris, is to return to the Home Circuit Court on May 18 when his trial will begin.

The trial was set for yesterday but had to be put off after the lawyers representing Edwards said they had an expert witness from overseas and the witness would not be available this week.

Harris was fatally shot in the head at her home in Pembroke Hall, St Andrew, in 2003.

Justice Donald McIntosh extended Edwards' bail.

The Crown is alleging that Edwards shot Harris and left a suicide note at the murder scene.

Defence lawyers Patrick Atkinson and Valerie Neita-Robertson are representing Edwards.
