Four arrested for firearms

The Spanish Town police on Sunday arrested and charged four men for breaching the Firearms Act when two firearms in their possession at Parrot Drive, Innswood Village, Spanish Town, St Catherine.

Charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition are Anthony Johnson, otherwise called 'Pokey' and Keith Livermore, both 21, of Benbow Street, Kingston 13; Nigel Shaw, 24, of Willowdene Way, St Catherine, and Kevin Dawes otherwise called 'Sugar', 28, of Nelson Street, Kingston.

Reports are that about 3 p.m., lawmen signalled a Toyota Probox motor car registered 9837 EX, travelling along Parrot Drive to stop. The driver obeyed and the vehicle and its occupants were searched. A Berretta 9mm pistol with twelve 9mm cartridges and a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol with ten 9mm cartridges were found. The four men were arrested, escorted to the Spanish Town Police Station and formally charged.

Investigation continues.

Unidentified man shot dead

An unidentified man was shot and killed by unknown assailants at First Avenue, Vineyard Town, Kingston 2, on Sunday night.

The dead man is believed to be in his late 20s, is of dark complexion, slim build, about 182 centimeters long and was clad in a brown sleeveless shirt, blue jeans pants, white cap and black slippers.

Reports are that about 7:30 p.m., residents heard explosions in the community and called the police. The police arrived to find the bullet-riddled body of the man on the roadway. The crime scene was processed and the body removed to the morgue for a post-mortem.

The Vineyard Town police are investigating.

MoBay police probe murder

The Montego Bay police are continuing their probe into the murder of a 56-year-old taxi operator at Paradise Street, Norwood, St James, on Sunday night.

Dead is Ricardo Scarlett of Norwood.

Reports are that about 11:30 p.m., Scarlett received a telephone call and drove out in a Toyota Caldina motor car registered 4900 FH, which he operates as a taxi. Shortly after, explosions were heard in the community and he was found in his car suffering from gunshot wounds. The police were summoned, the crime scene processed and his body removed to the morgue for post-mortem.

Investigation continues.
