OLDSTAGER SATISFIER has a perfect rail draw to go all the way in tomorrow afternoon's one-mile City of Kingston Centenary Cup for $470,000 claimers after turning back another old warrior, NASATOL, at 1400 metres earlier this month. SATISFIER put in a powerful performance to beat down-in-class NASATOL, sitting just off the pace in third while GOOD SENSE ripped splits of 23.3 and 46.4, heading into 1:12.3. NASATOL came wide with a sweeping run into the lane to duel SATISFIER taking over from speedy GOOD SENSE but lacked the legs and stamina of the 10-year-old gelding, who was presented in top condition by trainer Dwight Chen. SATISFIER actually won going away in 1:27.1 with apprentice Rayan Wilson, a decent time after prompting the pace and engaging in a stretch duel with down-in-class NASATOL. A mile should not be a problem for SATISFIER although he was caught and beaten at 1500 metres by THE SMOKER when reporting from Percy Hussey's barn in his previous race. It should be noted that DR STEPHANIE, who finished a half-length behind SATISFIER when THE SMOKER beat him, wasn't a factor on April 11 when the oldstager reported from Chen's barn. American-bred SPANISH TOWN, claimed by Michael McIntosh from Patrick Lynch two Saturdays ago after a battling loss to MARK TO MARKET at 1000 metres straight, ran SATISFIER to three-quarter length at 1500 metres on February 21 and must be respected. However, SATISFIER's backstretch pace will be tough to follow in a slower race. If rated kindly, he should drag his main dangers off their bridles down the backstretch and use his steely galloping to hold all comers at bay in the stretch run. Track price Plus Pick-6 players should start the day blazing with LADY WALES, FEE FI FOE and GOOD CITIZEN in the first three races before rounding off their bets with HE'S REALLY OK in the sixth, RUSHELLE in the seventh and DIGI N' JIGGY in the nightpan. LADY WALES went outside her distance on April 13, tackling PLEASURE FLIGHT and company at 1500 metres after beating non-winners-of-two on March 25. She's back, taking on speedy BALLROOM DANCER at 1200 metres and should overhaul her rival who clocked 1:01.4 out of the straight in finishing second to STEEL DE CAT, not exactly a hot time although coming off a near four-month lay-up. FEE FI FOE beat almost all her rivals at 1200 metres on April 18 and should get off the mark at 1100 metres whereas GOOD CITIZEN is down in class in the third among open allowance, having failed to beat graded stakes in three races. HE'S REALLY OK was used up in the 2000 Guineas, finishing fourth, allowing the likes of NAVAL COMMANDER to get close in sixth place. However, in a slower pace at 1820 metres, the roan gelding is expected to prove he's better than his peers including MY SPACE, who was never a factor in the 2000 Guineas. RUSHELLE won her maiden race like an out-of-class horse recently and must be followed against non-winners-of-two and DIGI N' JIGGY takes a drop in class after chasing home fit COCK ROBIN at 1100 metres on March 25. TESSANNE, who beat DOMINADOR by seven lengths on April 11, is drawn well on the stands' side but DIGI N' JIGGY is expected to nail her in deep stretch. |
