Residents protest cop killing |

Residents of Mountain View Avenue push an old fridge as they threatened to block the road after police shot two men, one fatally, in the community yesterday. - Rudolph Brown A strong detachment of police officers was deployed to lower Mountain View Avenue, after two shootings rocked the area mid-morning yesterday. Reports are that the police went to the Bygrave Road area to respond to the murder of Ijah Young, a resident of Jacques Road. While there, the lawmen were led to Chavez Avenue where they spotted two men on a motorcycle. Upon the officers' approach, the men reportedly shot at them. Fire was returned and both men were hit. One of them, later identified as Ramone Hopkins of a Henderson Avenue, Kingston 11 address, was pronounced dead at hospital. Early yesterday, police personnel blocked the entrance to the community, diverting traffic on to Deanery Road. Motorists were also advised to avoid the area until the tension had dissipated.
