Student pleads not guilty to burglary

A student pleaded not guilty to attempted burglary in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

The accused man, Shawn Buchanan, is accused of being in a room at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel although he was not confirmed as a guest.

Buchanan's lawyer told the court his client was invited to the room by a visiting friend. He said Buchanan visited the friend before and knowing the location of the room, he went there, saw that the door was open and entered.

However, the court is alleging that the room was neither booked nor occupied at the time when Buchanan claimed he was invited up by his friend.

The accused man told the court that he did not have any items in his possession when he was found in the room. Buchanan was granted $100,000 bail with surety and should return to court on May 20. He is to report to Matilda's Corner Police Station on Fridays between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
