Hit and rob

It seems there is no end to the madness and psychotic lengths to which some people will go to rob and steal.

The lead story in Wednesday's STAR is an example of this. According to the story, scammers have come up with a novel way to rob motorists.

pretend to be hurt

The police have discovered that there are men who simply walk into oncoming vehicles, pretend to be hurt and then rob the unsuspecting driver who tries to ensure that the 'victim' is okay. It is sad when thieves have come up with a method to prey on the kindness of people as this will simply force people to abandon their sense of responsibility out of fear.

The police have advised that anyone who hits a pedestrian should seek assistance from other persons before hopping out of the car to check. We can only hope that the authorities find and arrest these perpetrators as soon as possible, to put an end to what can only be described as madness.

The fact that these people are willing to hurt themselves just for an opportunity to steal a phone or a few thousand dollars is distressing. And although it may sound harsh, this will not stop until one of these men get a real hit from a vehicle. Maybe then, they will realise the error and stupidity of their ways and desist from such ridiculous actions.

In the meantime, we advise motorists to be observant and in the case of an accident, seek the help of the police.
