A policeman attached to the Black River Police Station in St Elizabeth was hit by a motorcycle as he conducted spot checks on the Watchwell main road in the parish on Tuesday night.

He is now in hospital in critical condition.

Reports are that about 9:40 p.m., a team of police was on the Watchwell main road carrying out spot checks when the constable attempted to stop a motorcycle. He was, however, run over by the vehicle. The constable and the driver of the motorcycle sustained severe injuries and were taken to the Black River Hospital where the driver was admitted in a serious but stable condition.
