Cummings - file COMMERCE CITY, Colorado (CMC) Jamaican international Omar Cummings struck a telling double and helped Colorado Rapids beat DC United 3-0 in US Major League Soccer (MLS) on Saturday night. In front of their home fans at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, the Rapids led 2-0 at the half from two goals from Cummings. An assist from the in-form Caribbean striker completed the rout over the Eastern Conference leaders as the Rapids stretched their unbeaten record to seven games. The Rapids grabbed an 11th-minute lead when Cummings sped on to a through ball from captain Pablo Mastroeni high in United's half. Cummings darted forward, skipped over an aggressive defensive challenge as he entered the box on the left, and confidently curled a right-footed shot at goalkeeper Josh Wicks. half-time Colorado made it 2-0 moments before half-time when Cummings latched on to a bad back pass and rounded Wicks to score easily. "I just got the chances and I put them away," Cummings said in a post-match interview. "The second one was a 'gimme' but you still have to work for it," added Cummings, who was scoring his third goal in two matches and fifth for the season. Colorado sealed the win in the 48th minute when Cummings placed a good cross from the left for Colin Clark to score. There was another Jamaican scorer on Saturday night when Ryan Johnson netted for the San Jose Earthquakes to defeat Los Angeles Galaxy 2-1. Pablo Campos scored a sixth-minute penalty for San Jose and Johnson extended the lead in the 54th minute with his sixth goal of the season. |
