Low turnout spoils Akbar's party
Krista Henry, Staff Reporter

It appears as if someone was attempting to steal a dance.

With two well-stocked bars in the centre of Akbar's in New Kingston, an availability of alcohol was not the problem at Arumix last Saturday night. Instead, a low turnout and lack of full-fledged advertising slowed what could have been a good party on a not-so-active party weekend.

When THE STAR entered the venue after midnight, groups of persons were outside and inside the venue, the number of persons present could have been easily counted.

With skimpily clad females, bartenders on hand and lively music, other than the lack of crowd, the event could have been a good party. TNG Muzik kept to the theme of the party, which was to be an energetic dance party, with a slew of wining songs from Kartel and others. The bartenders had an easy job with the lack of patrons and spent most of the night dancing and being hailed by the selectors.

As the night progressed, small groups of patrons entered, but kept to the sidelines of the venue, leaving a large free area in the centre.

The selectors did their best to create a vibe, encouraging those on the outside to come in saying, "di party mad." The few females who were 'brukking out' were easily noticed, as they were far outnumbered by their male counterparts.

Songs such as Careful and From Mawning got a big forward from the groups of men as the music was mostly upbeat and full of vibes. But by 1:30 a.m., the music was turned down. When THE STAR left the venue after 2 a.m., persons were still holding a spot outside the venue rather than going inside.

This trio was caught up in the moment at Arumix, held at Akbar.
