Thugs rob JAAA

Just days after triple Olympic record- holder Usain Bolt's house was broken into, criminals again struck at the office of the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA) at the Insports Building, Independence Park Limited, National Arena.

According to reports reaching THE STAR, thugs broke into the JAAA's Kingston 6 office on the weekend making off with a laptop with vital athletic information along with sporting gear and cash.

One JAAA official yesterday told the newspaper that the laptop taken by the thieves was used to record the 'reaction time' of athletes and was an integral part of the association's timing mechanism.

The official could not place an overall price tag on the theft. He added that an employee discovered that the office had been broken into after showing up for work yesterday.

Police reports said that between 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and 8:15 am on Monday, intruders gained entry into the building by breaking a glass window. The office was ransacked and a HP laptop, athletic gear and $800 were stolen.

The Half-Way Tree police are investigating.

Just last Thursday, thieves broke into Bolt's house in St Andrew and stole digital cameras, cellular phones and a laptop said to be valued at some $90,000. The theft occurred at about the same time the super sprinter outclassed several athletes in Ostrava, Czech Republic, with a 9.77 run in the 100-metre race.
