Accused robber pleads not guilty |

|
A man who appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday pleaded not guilty to robbery and wounding charges brought against him. Ryan Haye of a Corporate Area address is facing charges of robbery with aggravation and unlawful wounding. It is alleged that Haye and a group of men armed with knives held up the complainant and robbed him of a gold chain in the Liguanea area of St Andrew. Haye, however, denied the charges, telling the court that he was ignorant of the robbery. popular restaurant According to the accused, he was coming from a popular restaurant in the area when he saw some men running. He said the men ran past him and he was later approached by a tall man who claimed that he was one of the men who had robbed him. Haye added that the complainant had a stone in his hand and attacked him. The accused said he had a knife in his possession and used it to defend himself. He then claimed that the knife dropped and he ran from the scene crying for assistance. He alleged that the police later apprehended him and he spent 12 days in jail. Haye was advised by the court to get a lawyer and return to court on August 18 for trial. |
