![]() Destructive unity The lead story published in THE STAR on Monday is one that raises one question, why can't Caribbean people, Trinidadians and Jamaicans, specifically, just unite for something good? drug mules The article which ran under the headline 'Trini seeks J'can drug recruits' stated that a man from the twin-island republic, Trinidad and Tobago, came to Jamaica seeking drug mules. He reportedly wanted to export close to 300lb of ganja back to his home island but needed the assistance of some locals out here. Of course, being the 'kind-hearted' people that some of us are, a few people offered a helping hand and ended up being dragged before the courts with the accused Trini. This story brings back to mind a story that THE STAR broke in Jamaica not so long ago about allegations that men in Trinidad had flown a Jamaican hitman over there to kill a police in that country's criminal taskforce. Now, is it that the only thing Jamaicans and Trinidadians can unite for is something illegal, to execute a socially unacceptable plot? We think not. We can come together for some good things and we look forward to that day. |
