Cops halt card game scam |

Three men from Falmouth, Trelawny, who the police claim were operating a scam by allowing unsuspecting persons to win money in card games then robbing them, are now in the custody of the Area One police. The three, who the police allege operated throughout the parish, have not yet been charged. They were arrested on Monday after a female made a report earlier that day that she was tricked. victim The scam is said to be operated by one man playing the card game with the possible victim. The second person is said to play the role of a supporting customer by encouraging the possible victim to gamble. The third man is alleged to later rob the winner. Inspector Devon Forrester of the Area One division told THE STAR that the men are believed to have being runnning their operation for almost a year. He said that there have been a number of reports of persons being robbed minutes after gambling. Reports are said to have been received by the police from as far back as last year. accused The police said, however, that the claims of the victims could not be proven until two weeks ago when a friend of one of the alleged scammers disclosed the operation to the police. The man, police said, was held after he was accused of holding a woman at knifepoint and stealing her cellular phone. The investigation continues. |
