WESTERN BUREAU: An 11th grade male student of the Maud McLeod High School in Westmoreland is now being sought by the Darliston police after he was accused of stabbing a male teacher during an altercation at the school yesterday. Principal Avis Coleman and the police were unable to disclose to THE STAR the circumstances that led to the incident, as they were still in the process of collecting the information from possible eyewitnesses. The injured teacher, Conrad Clarke, was taken to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital where he was admitted for stab wounds to the shoulder and abdomen. The fracas occurred about 10:30 a.m. in the vicinity of the school canteen, as students wrote their internal and external examinations. The examinations were not disrupted. "I was in a meeting with the parents of new students when I noticed a commotion in the canteen area," Principal Coleman said. "I saw an 11th grade student running up the driveway; the gate was closed so he jumped over it and ran." She said that there had been talks of a feud between Clarke, the electrical installation teacher, and the 17-year-old student. She said that this level of violence was unusual at the school. |
