Cops seize ganja at kingston harbour

The Marine police seized over $60 million worth ($700,000 US) of compressed ganja following the search of a ship at the Kingston Harbour on Tuesday.

No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.

According to spokesman for Operation Kingfish, sergeant Jubert Llewellyn, about 10: 50 p.m. police personnel from the Marine Police Headquarters went on a routine patrol in the harbour.

They are said to have noticed a ship originating from Haiti, called the M-V C.F.S. Pacora, which was docked at Gordon Cay. The vessel was searched and two metal containers that were attached to the hull of the ship were removed and taken to the Marine Headquarters where they were cut open.

Over 91kg (200 lb) of ganja was confiscated. Investigators say the ship was scheduled to leave for Haiti that night.

Head of the marine police, Superintendent Marlon Dietrich, said that Tuesday's success would go a far way in their fight against the illicit guns-for-drugs trade between Jamaica and Haiti.
