A woman accused of using a hammer to hit another woman on the shoulder was ordered to return to court on July 9 with $20,000 to pay the complainant for her injuries. Charged with assault occasioning bodily harm is Nadine Appleby. The court was told that during a dispute between the two, Appleby used a hammer to beat the complainant on the shoulder, forcing her to seek medical attention. In her defence, however, Appleby said she and the complainant do not get along and the complainant pushed her child. She told the court that her baby ran to the complainant who pushed him to the ground. She, however, said she was not seeking compensation for the child's injuries. When she heard, however, that she would have to pay the complainant $20,000, she told the court that the police did not take her report when she went to the station with her baby. She was advised by Resident Magistrate Georgianna Fraser to report that concern to the bodies set up to deal with citizens' grouses with the police and return to court on the set date with the money. |
