What does a man do in prison for 120 years?

The first question that came to mind upon reading an article in last Thursday's STAR which told of a man being sentenced to 120 years for eight illegal guns was, what does a man do in prison for so long?

According to the story, a 43-year-old taximan was caught earlier this year by a multinational criminal dragnet created by Kingfish and operatives in Haiti and Jamaica.

A car that the man was driving was stopped, searched and the weapons found.

Without a doubt the sentence handed down can in no way be deemed unfair. Just think of all the lives that possibly would have been lost if and when those guns had reached the streets.

The police must be commended for their work and one would like to wish that efforts similar to this would take place much more often as guns and the persons firing them illegally are arguably our biggest problem.

The story further mentioned that the guns were traced to Haitian soil, a situation that we have been hearing for the longest while.

Hopefully, those involved in the deadly guns-for-drugs trade being operated between Jamaica and Haiti will use this lengthy sentence as motivation to remove themselves from being part of a possible 'death sentence'.

In essence that is what 120 years is.

It would take more that a miracle for a 43-year-old man to live 120 more years, so his days are literally numbered.

Take heed criminals! Take heed!
