Crime never pays

One of the stories in the Monday edition of THE STAR reminds us that crime never pays and almost never goes unpunished.

Even though there is a belief that many persons get away with the crimes they commit, this story is proof that fate can handle even what the law cannot.

According to the story, a man was walking along a road in the Corporate Area when he was attacked and shot by men travelling in a car. The man died on the spot. It is alleged that his attacker tried to escape in a waiting car, but fell from the vehicle which was driving off too fast. He was attacked and shot by residents of the area.

Although we will never condone vigilante justice or mob violence, it is hard to feel pity for a man who shot another in cold blood and then tried to escape. Though his death was also violent, we cannot help but believe that he simply received what he gave to others. His death, however gruesome and violent, was in direct response to the act he had previously committed.

As we established before, vigilante justice is never the answer. However, it seems as though fate had a big hand in the death of this alleged attacker, starting from his untimely fall from the motor vehicle. What we should all take away from this is the popular saying, 'do unto others as you would have them do unto you'.
