Teen dies in 'water war'

Even though we know death is inevitable, this makes it no easier when we lose someone we love.

We are sure the family of a St Elizabeth teen, who died suddenly while playing at school is not the least bit consoled by this knowledge. According to the lead story in yesterday's STAR, the youngster was with friends celebrating the end of the school year with a game of 'water war'.

fell ill

It is reported that he fell ill during the game, was taken to the school nurse and the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

This story is as sad as they come, and goes to show that we should all appreciate every day of life we are blessed with, as we never know when or how it will come to an end. Just a few minutes before his death, this schoolboy was as happy as a lark, playing with friends and getting his summer off to a fun start. The happiness, however, was short-lived and is eerily reminiscent of the old saying 'chicken merry, hawk deh near'.

To the family of the deceased boy, we know there are no words to ease the grief. We can only pray that, with time, the pain will lessen and life will slowly return to at least a fragment of what it was before.

Our prayers go out to them and all those who have lost loved ones.
