Fray to stand trial |

Twenty-one-year-old Stephen Fray, the man who attempted to hijack a CanJet aircraft in Montego Bay two months ago, is to stand trial on July 13 in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court. The outcome of the ordered psychiatric evaluation was submitted in court yesterday and Fray is deemed fit to stand trial. Fray, resident of Albion in Montego Bay, St James, was formally charged on April 31, almost two weeks after the incident in question. He was slapped with charges of illegal possession of firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, shooting with intent, robbery with aggravation, assault at common law and breaches of the Civil Aviation Authority and Airports Authority acts. security breach Reports are that about 10:20 p.m. on April 19, Fray forced his way through security checkpoints at the Sangster International Airport and boarded CanJet Flight 918 destined for Halifax, Canada (a chartered flight), with a scheduled stop in Santa Clara, Cuba. He reportedly held members of the crew hostage for some seven hours after releasing the 160 passengers on board. No one was hurt and the plane was not damaged in the incident. All crew members were eventually freed after the police invaded the aircraft and held Fray. |
