32 confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus |
|||||
The Ministry of Health has so far revealed that there are 32 confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus in Jamaica. There have been no deaths so far and there is no ban on public gatherings. Though things seem to be at a manageable stage now, we must remember that it could become a major health hazard if each person does not take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the disease. There are many people who show a lack of regard or completely ignore basic rules of etiquette. Coughing and sneezing are actions we cannot control, but we were taught from a very early age to cover our mouths and noses, especially when we are in public. Since we realise, however, that not everyone knows how to behave in public, it is up to us to ensure that we remain healthy. There is no shortage of information on the virus and the Ministry of Health has provided many flyers and releases keeping the nation updated and providing information on how best to try to prevent the spread of the virus. This nation has enough problems. We do not need a major nationwide health scare to be added to that. The 32 people who have been confirmed as having the virus should follow doctors' instructions and stay home until they are completely better. This will go a long way in reducing the spread of the virus. |
