Barbican levelled Maverley Hughenden 8-0 yesterday in Sherwin Williams Women's League action at the Barbican field.

Jodi-Ann McGregor scored four goals in the 5th, 17th, 40th and 42nd minutes while Janine Bennett delivered in the 73rd and 80th minutes. Alicia James and Yanique Goldspring were the other goalscorers.

Harbour View United lived up to expectations as well, drubbing Santos 4-0.

The Stars of the East sprung into the lead in the 8th minute from a penalty taken by Stacey-Ann Johnson. Shakira Duncan scored in the 45th minute and Latisha Daley scored an own goal in the 65th minute. In the 80th minute, substitute Shanique Mitchell, who came on in the 46th minute, scored the final and deciding goal.

Coach Vin Blaine of Harbour View United said the accomplishment was what the team had worked for. "Our performance was what we wanted. We won the game so we can't ask for anything more," Blaine said.

The girls, he said, stood up in the first half and stayed behind the ball. He stated that the second goal came just before the half and that's what they needed to go into the second half.

"In the second half we did what we had to do. We moved the ball around and Santos relented, so we scored two more goals," Blaine said.

In the day's other games, Trelwany Women defeated Arnett Gardens 3-2 at the Elliston Wakeland Centre and Portmore Strikers were 2-0 winners over Constant Spring, with Tashana Vincent scoring both goals.

Meanwhile, Meadhaven United got by Olympic Gardens 3-0 at Michigan Avenue.
