Waiting for one's real juicy break in the music industry can be for some like waiting on ripe star apples to fall. It can be like a hard grind to reap the 'goodies' as the experience has shown for Fernando Harris, who goes by the stage name 'Mama Boy'.

Harris, who has been deejaying since 1995 at the age of 14, has lived in central Ocho Rios areas like Bucksfield, Falkland, Pineapple, and even Spanish Town, and is an established figure around DJ circles in St Ann and adjoining parishes.

He has appeared on prominent shows and has shared the stage with popular artistes like Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Vybz Kartel, Sugar Minott, Sanchez and Little Hero.

But time on the big stage has always been limited and mostly in a role as a sidekick. However, it is the chance to shine for which he desperately yearns. For Mama Boy, finding the right connections to hit the jackpot has remained elusive.

He even recently met with Liverpool-based promoter/producer Stephen 'Father B' Browne, owner of Yard British Entertainment, where he intends to secure a deal.

Harris believes two things are going against him at this juncture in his career.

"When yuh come from Ochi, dem nuh believe seh yuh mainstream. It harder down here. Nobody nah invest di right way in a di music down here. Yuh havi fi guh a Kingston but what if yuh nah work or have somewhere to stay?"

In the meantime, Mama Son says he wants to keep on working hard at his craft, while improving the "links" he has developed in the industry.

"Well Kartel still has me as his Empire DJ in Ochi so that is a positive and right now I am doing some hard work for the summer with Cold Fusion Studios in Bucksfield," he said.
