FIX-IT - Haughton and Terrace avenues fixed |
|||||
|
AS PART of our mission to be the People Paper, THE WEEKEND STAR has been highlighting problem areas across the island. Our Reporter Carolyn Johnson, along with photographer Norman Grindley, will focus on a particular area until the problem is fixed. We will then have a rough idea of how long the relevant authorities take to deal with some of the problems affecting our country. Another week of good news. Aren't we on a roll. It seems we have been complacent in keeping an eye on those three avenues in New Kingston, off Trafalgar. We have been so out of touch, we were informed matter-of-factly yesterday that the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) repaired Haughton and Terrace avenues about three weeks ago. Hmmm. So by our calculation it took four months and one week to have the roads patched, no counting the months before we started featuring it. But the question remains, what about Garelli Avenue? This road leading back to Trafalgar Road is yet to be 'properly repaired'. What's the hold-up? 1. Garelli Avenue - five months. Agency responsible: KSAC. This avenue leading to Trafalgar Road has been in a terrible condition for a long time and continues to get worse. 2. Waltham Park Road - four months, one week. Agency responsible: National Works Agency (NWA) This strip of road in the vicinity of 44 Waltham Park Road, just before the gully, started going bad with two potholes. It has now totally deteriorated into a short stretch of large stones and rubble. 3. Pedestrian crossing on the corner of Parish Place - four months Agency Responsible: NWA. This pedestrian crossing on the corner of Parish Place, off Constant Spring Road, road is nuisance to motorists and poses a serious danger to pedestrians who receive the walk signal at the same time motorists turning get the green light. |
