Vice-principal granted bail
Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

The Vice-principal of a St Catherine School was granted $150,000 bail when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court charged with nine counts of rape.

It was revealed in court that the 51-year-old allegedly committed the act over a period of time.

That the police recently got information from the complainant who is now an adult that the accused had sexually exploited her.

An attorney who represented the accused told the court that her client is a victim of a plot by the boyfriend of the complainant.

She added that the complainant's boyfriend pressured her into reporting the matter, which does not even have a set date that the offences occurred, only that it was reported on June 15.

The lawyer told Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Greene the boyfriend questioned the complainant if she was ever molested, and she said that the accused had done so on a number of occasions.

The lawyer insisted that the action of the boyfriend gives the impression that the incident must have taken place, and that this is not fear to the accused.

She told the court that the man is not a flight risk and that he was taken to the police by his lawyer.

There was no objection to the bail application, which was granted on condition that the teacher reports to the Caymanas Police Station in St Catherine.

He was also warned that he should have no association with the complainant.
