Brawlers fined

Two women who were involved in a brawl were each fined $6,000 in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

The accused women, Vivis Prince and Elethia Ricketts, both of Corporate Area addresses, were charged with unlawful wounding, disorderly conduct and being in possession of an offensive weapon. They pleaded guilty to all the charges.

It is alleged that the women were involved in a brawl which resulted in Ricketts being injured with a knife and Prince being injured with a stick. Ricketts told the court that the two women were travelling towards each other along the road when she saw Prince pulling a knife from her person.

Ricketts said that she tried to escape Prince but failed and was wounded by the knife. She further added that she found a piece of stick and used it to injure Prince.

When Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey asked what was the reason for the altercation, Ricketts told the court that Prince is having an affair with her husband.

The women were ordered to pay $5,000 each or spend six months in prison for the charge unlawful wounding. They were ordered to pay $1000 or spend 10 days in prison for the charge of disorderly conduct, while the charge of being in possession of an offensive weapon was admonished and discharged.
