Carnal abuse charges are to be brought against a Corporate Area clinical psychologist after police from the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse took him into custody on Wednesday.

The man was arrested after it was alleged that he was having an affair with a female minor.

Police sources told THE STAR that the psychologist was accused of sexually assaulting the minor from 2000 to 2009. The youngster is still under the age of consent.

Police said that it has not yet been ascertained whether or not the youngster was the client of the arrested medical professional.

One investigator told THE STAR that the man "was in the process of being interviewed and as such further information cannot be divulged at this time". The investigator, however, said that the man would be charged before the end of the week.

The accused man remains in the custody of the police.
