The six men who were arrested on Monday following the seizure of approximately 400 lb (181 kgs) of compressed ganja have been charged.

They are 25-year-old Fabian Davis, 27-year-old Clayton Reid, 33-year-old Percival Neufville, 32-year-old Shawn Matthews, 34-year-old Stephen Mills and 30-year-old Robert Robinson.

Davis and Reid are both from Dalvy, St Thomas, while the other four are from Portland.

The men were picked up Monday evening in St Thomas during a joint police operation between personnel from the Trans-national Crimes and Narcotic Division, along with their colleagues in Portland.

The men were arrested and taken into custody after they were found loading drugs on to a 28-foot fishing boat, which the police said was destined for Haiti as part of the drugs-for-gun trade.

According to the police, the men were first spotted at a beach in Hectors River, Portland, loading the drugs on to a boat. The police said they trailed the men across the border into St Thomas where they were picked up on a beach in Dalvy.

The drugs, which has an estimated street value of $2.8 million, was found aboard the vessel wrapped in masking tape and placed in five white buckets, four rice bags, and two black plastic bags.

The police also seized a Mercury 60 horsepower outboard boat engine.
