Wet, sandy fun at Absinthe

Absinthe kicked summer beach parties into full gear on Sunday at Morgan's Harbour in Port Royal, with rum, sand and a lot of daggering.

The venue was decked out as a tropical paradise with bright colours all around, skimpily clad women and food as well as drinks on hand.

While it was a day party, it was between 6 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. that the high-energy fun took place. DJ Sanjay and DJ Cutty from Coppershot, DJ Pepsi from Renaissance, and ZJ Johnny Kool had the crowd bubbling with their musical selections.

With a huge bar erected in the water, the selectors took their place by the bar as they got a bird's eye view of the party. When THE STAR arrived, Johnny Kool had the party bouncing, while patrons snacked on shrimp, fish and chicken appetisers. But it was DJ Sanjay who got the real vibe going.

Starting off with some soca, a group of men and women in the centre of the venue were seen misbehaving - jumping up and down and doing crazy dance moves.

The madness continued, as retro '90s dancehall played with songs from Spragga Benz and the Innocent Crew getting huge forwards.

Soon, patrons were sweeping away the sand and 'clicking their fingers' to the music, and as the evening progressed, the venue filled out and the vibes intensified.

Pulling a Twin of Twins dub from the new CD Trial and Crosses, Sanjay soon gave way to DJ Pepsi.

Throughout the night, the selectors gave humorous comments with a lot of 'sex talk' and had the women obeying their commands.

Soon women were wining to the ground, covered in sand, hoisted in the air, while others got wet under the open shower on the beach.

A touch of '80 music from Madonna and others had persons kicking up their feet, as one male moonwalked in the sand with a female partner following in front of him, while a small crowd gathered around to watch and cheer. The two continued to attract attention as they went under the shower again dancing up a storm.

Even as the party wound down, patrons were reluctant to leave. But being wet, sandy and tired, the Absinthe crowd clearly enjoyed their moments on the beach.
