The Police have arrestedand charged a 19-year-old employee of a popular bill-payment agency with 26 counts of larceny as a servant after she was accused of stealing $50,000 from customers, and by extension, the agency, over a two-month period. Samantha Alexander, of an upper St Andrew address, is now set to answer to the charges in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court later this week. Reports reaching THE STAR are that money was collected from customers that was tendered for bill payments and the receipts were issued. However, portions of the money were later removed from the register and the payments voided. The police said as a result, customers would be left with actual receipts while their money tendered as bill payment never made it to the relevant utility company. Investigators from the St Andrew North police said that the management officials at the agency brought the issue to their attention before the accused girl was arrested and charged last Thursday. |
