LONDON (AP) Triple world champion Tyson Gay will compete in the 200-metre race at the London Grand Prix later this month as part of his preparations for the World Championships in Berlin. The American sprinter, who won 100, 200 and 4x100 relay events at the worlds in Osaka two years ago, has raced once this season over 200, in New York in May, when he clocked 19.58 seconds. timeline The July 24-25 London meet is just three weeks before the worlds from August 15-23. Gay said yesterday: "The race in London is important for me as a final test for the World Champion-ships. I've only raced once this season in the 200m and I was really happy with that." That time was the third-fastest ever behind Olympic champion Usain Bolt and American Michael Johnson. |
