FALMOUTH, Trelawny

It took the dreaded penalty shoot-out for Exidus to win the National Rums of Jamaica Trelawny Major League crown over Harmony in the last of the two-leg final at the Elliston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth yesterday.

With an aggregate 2-2 stalemate at the end of regulation and extra time, the game was decided from the spot and it was from there that Exidus outshot Harmony 6-5.

dribbling to goal

Exidus opened the scoring in the fourth minute when Roydean Thomas collected a through pass, and dribbling to goal, lobbed the ball over the head of the advancing goalkeeper.

The equaliser came in the 31st minute from Derron Myles, who meticulously pushed the ball to a corner of the goal to beat an outstretched keeper. In Tuesday's first leg, the teams had also played to a 1-1 draw.

While Harmony may have had the better of the play, the sheer resilience of Exidus made the encounter an epic battle.

"It was one of those very good games," Trelawny Football Association president Linnel McLean said. The winner pocketed $150,000 and the trophy, which was presented by Mark Brown of National Rums.

Exidus will go on to the Western Confederation Competition.
