British ex-soldier granted bail

Deno Thomas, a former soldier in the British Army who was recently charged along with Keron Ferrigon for a drug rap, was granted bail when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Thomas and Ferrigon, who both reside in the Corporate Area were charged with possession of ganja, dealing in, taking steps preparatory to export the drug and conspiracy, had their first appearance in court last month.

It is alleged that Thomas was fingered by Ferrigon as the person who gave her the substance for export when she was stopped at the Norman Manley Inter-national Airport during a routine search and found with 9.4lb (4.27 kilograms) of ganja within her luggage. Both were destined to the Barbados.

The accused man who is from Red Hills is said to be the sole breadwinner for his two children in the United Kingdom. He served in the British army and is a self-employed network administrator. He was also previously convicted in the British court system on a similar offence.

Thomas was granted bail in the sum of $100,000 with a surety and should report to the Red Hills Square Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Both should return to court on August 18 for mention.
