Two women who clashed over a man had their assault case dismissed when they appeared before Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday. The women, Ashica Edwards of a Constant Spring Road address and Shelly-Ann Brown of a Upper Mall Road address were charged with assault at common law. According to the complainant, she was walking with Edwards along Maxfield Avenue when she heard a female shouting from a passing bus. She claimed that the female, who was later identified as Brown, came out of the bus with a knife in her hand and walked towards Edwards and herself. The complainant said she asked Edwards if she knew Brown and she said yes. The complainant alleges that she watched as Brown stabbed at Edwards and was trying to intervene when she fell on the ground. The complainant alleges that she was attacked by Brown but was saved by someone who subdued her attacker. These statement were, however, dismissed by Brown who said that she was attacked by Edwards with a knife and she drew a nail file in defence, indicating that she did not have a knife. When Judge Pusey asked Edwards if she had a knife, she reluctantly answered "yes". After a series of questions from the RM, it was revealed the dispute between Brown and Edwards was because of a man. The case was dismissed and a no-order was made in the assault at common-law charge. The charges for offensive weapon and disorderly conduct were withdrawn. |
