'Gaza mi seh' - Usain Bolt says Vybz Kartel is his favourite artiste.

Mega sprint star Usain Bolt gave a quick shout-out to his favourite deejay, Vybz Kartel, during the World Championships in Athletics, but it may have gone unnoticed by most people.

Prior to the start of the 100 metres quarter-final last Saturday morning, the world-record holder, during his routine pre-race theatrics, uttered the words "Gaza mi seh" .

The reference was to Vybz Kartel and his 'Gaza' clique, which also includes fellow deejays Blak Ryno and Jah Vinci.

In the documentary Why Do Jamaicans Run So Fast, both Bolt and Vybz Kartel are featured, and when asked to name his favourite dancehall artiste, Bolt cites Vybz Kartel because of his lyrical savvy.

a fan from long time

When contacted, Vybz Kartel told THE STAR he wasn't aware of Bolt's utterances at the World Championships but said he welcomed it.

"No, I actually wasn't aware," he said. "But Bolt is my dupes from morning. Remember Bolt is a youth who used to train up a Mona - dem time deh Vybz Kartel a wear jersey. He has been a fan from long time," he added, while noting he speaks with him regularly.

Kartel added that there was a mutual respect between them.

"Well, Usain is a man who respect Kartel. Vybz Kartel is a man who respects Usain Bolt. He has seen the growth that Vybz Kartel has made and right now a just straight Gaza him a seh," he said.

"A man in Africa knows who Usain is, they don't necessarily know about Gaza or the Portmore Empire. He's a big personality, and he gave a big-time big-up, and it was on one of the biggest stages," he added.

Vybz Kartel also said he expects Jamaica to make a clean sweep of all the sprint events.
