Despite the boiling midday sun, many persons, including reggae and dancehall artistes, came out in full support at Digicel's World Championships of Athletics concert to celebrate the success of the Jamaican athletes in Berlin, Germany.

The event, held on Knutsford Boulevard in New Kingston on Saturday, the penultimate day of the championships, served two purposes: to watch the sprint relays on Digicel's big screen, and to celebrate the athletes' achievements through music.

Host Miss Kitty kept the vibes going and interacted well with the audience just before the races began. A sudden hush descended on the gathering as the women's 4x100 metres final began. A joyous eruption soon replaced the silence as Jamaica won in 42.06 seconds. D'Angel kicked-off the performance segment soon after; however, she had very little to do as the ecstatic crowd was already beaming with joy. She used the opportunity to encourage Jamaicans to follow in the footsteps of the athletes.

"Just keep bigging-up yourselves and continue representing Jamaica," said D'Angel, after she sang Stronger and Good Fi Dem, a song which she did for the athletes.

Gospel act Goddy Goddy performed minutes after the women's 4x400 metres semi-final and found himself before a very quiet yet curious crowd, which had just witnessed the American team blaze through their race.

Nevertheless, he managed to grab their attention with a gospel medley and declared, "Too long dem attach Jamaica to negativity, but we did it a Beijing, now a Berlin."

G-Whizz's response wasn't so bad, and even though it was a brief stint, his song, Life, had enough ingredients to entertain the crowd that was dehydrated by the fierce heat.

Eyes were soon fixed to the screen again for the men's 4x100 metre final and the gathering seemed to sense one more gold once the baton went around.

The atmosphere soon went from sedate to 'carnival-esque' as the Jamaican men, who set a new championship record time of 37.31 seconds, crossed the line metres ahead of the competition.

With such a stunning performance, equally outstanding entertainment was required.

Queen Ifrica stepped up and orchestrated something pleasant for the fans. Cameal Davis and Konshens held firm, and the 'Energy God,' Elephant Man, closed in fine style.
