Love story a welcome change

The lead story in yesterday's STAR was a welcome departure from the regular front-page stories. Instead of reading about a gruesome murder or a new scam in which many were duped of millions, the love story of Olando Lawrence and Stacylee Cole took centre stage.

The usual early-morning hustle and bustle of Cross Roads was momentarily put on pause when Lawrence bravely and boldly stepped out into the street, got on one knee and proposed to his lady love. Luckily for him, she said yes, and their story had a happy ending.

Tuesday's happening is proof that chivalry is not dead. Not many men would even think of such an idea, let alone execute it, but in Olando Lawrence, the women of this country have seen that there is hope. As the story rightly described it, acts such as this are only seen in the movies and written about in poetry. Though to some it may seem corny and over-rehearsed, we are sure that Olando's wife-to-be would beg to differ, and we can bet that this is a story she will share with her children and her children's children.

Tuesday morning's gesture not only made Staceylee happy, but it seems to have brought a smile to the face of those who were in Cross Roads to witness it. It is a good thing, and perhaps if more things that like were happening daily our country would be a much happier place.
