West Kingston-based Liv Up Records is now giving upcoming artistes the chance to get closer to their dreams through its Belgium Talent Search.

One of the newest record labels, Liv Up Records has been getting a lot attention with its 'Good Life' and 'Liv Up' rhythms. As such, many young artistes have been going to the label in search of exposure.

"Everybody start check wi and seh dem waan voice fi wi. Wi realise seh it couldn't work like that. We decide seh wi haffi start something," Clinton 'Crumbs' Marsh, a member of Liv Up Records, told THE WEEKEND STAR.

The Belgium Talent Search has been running officially for four months now. And already it has been getting popular, as at least 3,000 patrons attend each show.

Marsh said many young artistes were entering the competition, so Liv Up Records decided to do auditions every second Friday in each month. The actual show is held on the last Friday of the month in Tivoli Gardens.

major prize

On average, he said there are about 25 contestants at the auditions and 10 of them are chosen to perform at the monthly show. At that show, other established artistes also perform, giving patrons a complete show.

"Dem nuh really get no major prize, just the opportunity to record wid wi. We a try help out a next youth weh can deejay but nuh really get the opportunity," Marsh said.

While there are no major prizes, Marsh said the competition gives a lot of upcoming artistes an opportunity to be heard. And, he said it is quite different from the other talent searches on television.

"Our own a come from the garrison. We just a try help people weh nuh have nutten. Di youth dem weh waan do music and waan do things but dem nuh have nobody a direct dem di right way. Anybody can come a our thing," Marsh said.

The show is also expected to grow as more people want to become part of the experience.

"Everybody love it. People a contact wi pon wi MySpace and a ask when dem can fly down and get a chance fi work pon di show. Even big artistes waan work pon it," Marsh said.

At the monthly shows, there have been performances from artistes like Konshens, Andrew and Wada Blood, I-Octane, One Third, Gully Squad, G whizz, Macka Diamond, Patriot and Tuff Enuff.
