Teen killed in freak accident

An 18 year-old girl from Cumberland, St Catherine, who had gone to Montego Bay, St James, with a relative to earn a living from vending along the busy Barnett Street, was killed tragically on Saturday in a freak accident.

Reports reaching THE STAR is that Malissa Marsh was with a relative peddling wares about 7:20 a.m. when a black Toyota Mark II owned and driven by Alun Virgo of Coral Gardens got out of control. The car then hit a Toyota Corolla parked nearby before hitting the teen, pinning her to the sidewalk.

Police say the teen, who sustained multiple injuries, was rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Attempts to get in contact with the family of the deceased were unsuccessful. Speaking with THE STAR yesterday, the police could not immediately confirm if charges had been brought against the driver of the ill-fated vehicle. They said that investigations were ongoing nonetheless.
