Illegal weapon recovered in Olympic Gardens

An illegal weapon was recovered by the Olympic Gardens Police on Monday night, during an alleged shoot-out with gunmen. One man was injured during the incident.

The injured man, a 23-year-old from a Victoria Terrace address in Kingston 11, has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as shooting with intent.

Reports are that shortly after 6 p.m., a police team that was on patrol went into the area after receiving reports that gun shots were heard there. Upon the team's arrival, the injured man was reportedly seen walking along the roadway with an M16 rifle in his hand. He reportedly opened fire at the police, and was shot and injured. An M16 rifle bearing serial number 1125242, with a magazine containing eight 5.56 rounds was seized. The injured man was taken to hospital for treatment. He was admitted in stable condition, under police guard.

The hands of the police as well as those of the injured man were swabbed and the Bureau of Special Investigations will be looking into the matter.
