The Toyota Hiace bus that was said to have been used to hit and kill a six-year-old boy along the Nelson Mandela Highway on Tuesday is now in the possession of the police, while the driver is being sought. The child, Dennis Brown, of the Caymanas Bay District, St Catherine and student of the Independence City Primary School in St Catherine, succumbed to his injuries about 11 p.m. on Tuesday, approximately eight hours after being hit. The driver of the bus did not stop after the accident. "This morning (yesterday) about 9:00, we found the bus at the Portmore Police Station and we are now searching for the driver. Our investigation is way advance," said a policeman from the Central Village Traffic Department. Reports are that about 3:30 p.m., Brown was among other students who were about to cross the road near the entrance to Caymanas Bay when he was hit by a bus travelling from Spanish Town. He was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was admitted. He later succumbed to his injuries. The police claim that speeding was a contributing factor to the accident. The area where the accident occurred is said to be a 'black spot' as in 2006 Jevaughn Simms a student of White Mall Primary, was also killed. In April 2008, seven-year-old Annmarie Maine from Central Village was also mowed down along the stretch of road. |
