WAYNE DACOSTA's two-year-old filly, MONEY SPINNER, should make it two from two off a four-month lay-up in tomorrow's Dewhurst Stakes, taking on colts and geldings in the 1300-metre event. A winner on debut back in May, MONEY SPINNER looked well when winning at 600 metres in 35.4 at the expense of the colt SILENT IMAGE, who subsequently got off the mark early last month at 1000 metres round. Nicely bred, Alisios-Royal Dancer, MONEY SPINNER continues to look good at exercise in the mornings, beating American-bred three-year-old CASSANOVA BOY last Thursday, clocking 1:07.0 for five-and-a-half furlong. SILENT IMAGE galloped the same morning and paled in comparison with 1:09.0, suggesting DaCosta's filly should still have the beating of the colt. MONEY SPINNER's main threat could be a filly instead of any of the three colts or geldings in the line-up. Rowan Mathie's AL FOUZIA was impressive at 800 metres straight on August 1, clocking 47.4 in a near six-length win over return-winner ONLY BEGOTTEN SUN. Similar to MONEY SPINNER, AL FOUZIA has sparked at exercise, posting 1:07.0. However, her final furlong, 1:01.0, was slower than MONEY SPINNER's 1:00.1. Champion trainer DaCosta's CASSANOVA BOY should make a winning debut in the fifth at 1100 metres despite taking on the experienced BABY JAZZ, a battling loser last time out. CASSANOVA BOY should have debuted back in April but was declared lame prior to post. However, the American-bred three-year-old has trained nicely since, clocking 1:07.0 before posting 1:07.2 for five-and-a-half last Thursday. outbattled BABY JAZZ has 12 outings under her girth, including her last run when she tried to make all at 1200 metres but was outbattled in the final furlong and finished sixth in a blanket finish behind NEW KINGSTON. Despite her experience, she has not worked as well as CASSANOVA BOY, clocking 1:01.3 the same morning DaCosta's runner clocked 1:00.1 for the last five furlongs of his 1:07.0 five-and-a-half spin. SMOOTH DIAMOND, who lost by a short head to NEW KINGSTON in the same event which BABY JAZZ led and finished sixth by three lengths, looks suspect, scratched lame on September 2 and has done nothing on the exercise track since. The Track Price Plus 'Dig-Out' Handicap should be a cracker at 1200 metres in the 10th with LORD ADMIRAL expected to frank the form of ANASTASIA and BEAUTIFUL SPACE. LORD ADMIRAL, in only his second run, carried the 14-strong field to the final furlong at 1400 metres on August 8, repelling the likes of BEAUTIFUL SPACE and JAYLEN, but nailed by ANASTASIA. BEAUTIFUL SPACE returned to beat a good field last Saturday. Prior to that JAYLEN, attempting 1000 metres straight, was only beaten by IT IS WRITTEN after losing to ANASTASIA and LORD ADMIRAL. Round off those Track Price Plus Pick-6 bets with super-fit THE BEST MAN in the fourth at 1100 metres; speedy THAT'S MY MARKET in the seventh at 1000 metres straight, and ESCAPE THE FATE to pace rivals to death in the eighth at a mile. |
